What is Architecture?
Architecture is the art and science of designing and constructing buildings, structures, objects, and outdoor spaces so that they meet functional, aesthetic, and environmental considerations. At minimum we want the buildings and spaces we construct to be safe and meet their intended purpose. But we also want them to look good and appealing to ourselves and others. And finally, we want them to be environmentally friendly in terms of the material they use, the energy they consume etc. Architects deal will all these three aspects.
A typical architecture course is designed to provide essential grounding in the history of architecture and current trends, as well as key research methods, laws and regulations, conservation and sustainability issues, and modules to hone analytical and numerical skills. Knowledge is also imparted in other subjects such as building construction technology, structural design and systems, basic design and visual arts, and building materials and sciences. The focus is on design methodology and its application in design of buildings such as homes, hospitals, schools, colleges, offices etc.
