  • Admission process for some colleges and universities starts before Class XII exams with possible provisional admission.

  • Many colleges/universities do not give admission to B.Com or BA (Economics) if the candidate has done Business Maths or Commerce without Maths in Class XII.
  • There are entrance examinations to be written for many BA, B.Com, B.Sc. courses such as SET at Symbiosis, UET at BHU , UGAT at Univ. of Allahabad.
  • Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) offers a 3 year BA in Social Science at its , Tuljapur, Guwahati & Hyderabad campuses to which admission is through online TISS Bachelor’s Admission Test (TISS-BAT)
  • IIT Kanpur offers a 4 year BS Economics course.
  • IIT Kharagpur offers a 5 year integrated M.Sc. Course in Economics.
  • IIT Chennai has 5 year integrated Masters of Arts (M.A) degree programme in English Studies and Development Studies. There is a separate Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Exam (HSEE) for admission into these courses for which a candidate needs to have done class XII in any stream.
  • For professional courses like LLB, B.Tech, BE, BBA etc. admission can be obtained on the basis of Class XII exam score in some institutions and there is no entrance test.
  • The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) now offers 4 year Bachelor of Science (BS) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Materials and Environment.
  • Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Trivandrum is the only institute in Asia to offer B.Tech. in Aerospace Engineering, Avionics and Physical Sciences admission to which is on the basis of JEE Main scores.
  • Admission to the B.Arch. course in many colleges is on the basis of score in the National Aptitude Test for Architecture.
  • A student needs to have done Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics to do a B.Arch course.
  • For many B.Tech./BE( Biotechnology) even students of PCB can get admission.
  • Aspirants to Merchant Navy Engineering can do the 4 year Marine Engg. from Maritime Engineering Research Institute (MERI), Kolkata and Merchant Navy Navigation field can do 3 year B.Sc. (Nautical Science) from the TS Chanakya, Navi Mumbai, based on their rank in JEE Advanced Exam.
  • AICTE approval is mandatory for all technical institutions and colleges affiliated to Universities for the following courses:
    • Engineering & Technology
    • Management
    • Town Planning
    • Architecture
    • Hotel Management & Catering Technology
    • Pharmacy
    • Applied Arts & Crafts (Vocational)
  • The AICTE approval is not mandatory for Private Universities and Autonomous Institutions.
