Law

What is Law

Law is the set of rules that guide our conduct in society and is enforced through public agencies such as the police and the judiciary. These rules regulate a society with the intention of maintaining social order, encouraging justice and preventing any kind of harm to individuals and property. They also ensure that business is conducted within a framework that is fair and applicable uniformly.

How to Pursue the Course?

Students with an interest to make a career in law can either do a 3 year law course after graduation in any discipline or even a 5 year integrated course after completing class 12th education.

The LLB (Bachelor’s in Law) is regulated by the Bar Council of India which defines rules and regulations in reference to legal practices in the country. Any further specialisation in Law is done at Masters, M.Phil or PhD level. A higher degree also assists students to get jobs in academics.

As of 2012, admission to LLB and LLM in major of the autonomous law schools in India is based on score of Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). However, many private autonomous law schools conduct their own admission tests or grant admission based on Law School Admission Test (LSAT). For some law courses admission is also granted on the basis of performance in Class XII.
